Gull Recovers After Rescue in Pacific City

Glaucous-winged Gull #25-12 Admitted 1/20/25 Location found: beach at Pacific City Released 2/12/25 Days in care: 23

February 12, 2025

This juvenile glaucous-winged gull was found in the surf in Pacific City. They were dehydrated and not standing or using their legs at intake. On exam, staff discovered round lesions on the soles of their feet, and our veterinarian suspected they may have come in contact with a caustic substance. After a few days of fluid therapy and supportive care, the bird was standing again. The lesions resolved over the next weeks and the patient was moved to an outdoor aviary for flight conditioning. Once they were flying strongly again, the gull was ready to go!

After weeks of care and flight conditioning, the rehabilitated glaucous-winged gull was released back to its coastal home.
