Orphaned Chipmunks Get a Second Chance at WCNC

Townsend’s Chipmunks #25-427 - 432 (x6)

July 22, 2025

Six young Townsend’s Chipmunks were found at a job site in Cannon Beach when workers accidentally disturbed their nest. Reuniting efforts failed and the mother did not return, so they are growing up at WCNC! The chipmunks were about four weeks old at intake, so while most are still eagerly slurping up formula, they’re also nibbling on solid foods. Once they’re fully weaned and have spent some time acclimating to life outdoors, they’ll be ready for release!

Six orphaned Townsend’s chipmunks are being hand-reared at WCNC after their nest was disturbed in Cannon Beach.
Hand-feeding and care from WCNC staff give these little orphans a second chance at survival.
