The Wildlife Center of the North Coast joined the 65th annual Forestry Days, where every sixth grader in Clatsop County explores the forest and learns about conservation. At our wildlife station, students discovered how we care for injured animals and tested their knowledge of native Oregon wildlife through a fun, hands-on activity.

Last month, we were proud to take part in the 65th annual Forestry Days, a long-standing Clatsop County tradition where every sixth grader spends a day exploring the forest and learning about forestry and conservation. Over two days, students walked through the Oregon Department of Forestry’s demonstration forest and rotated through interactive stations on topics like tree measurement, plant identification, tree planting, restoration, recreation, fire, fisheries, mushrooms, wood products, and wildlife.

Our Education Coordinator, Annie, and Executive Director, Kari, led the wildlife station, where students got an inside look at wildlife rehabilitation and how we help injured and orphaned animals return to the wild. To make it hands-on, we played a fun activity that tested their knowledge of native Oregon animals—sparking lots of enthusiasm!

We’re grateful to be part of such a community-wide effort that introduces young people to the many ways we all care for our forests, waters, and wildlife.
